Carmen Álvarez
Scientific and technical translator
I am a physicist by training and have been dedicated to technical translation for more than twenty years in the fields of engineering, applied science and medical devices. My background combines the specialised knowledge of a scientific education with a solid professional practice in the translation of complex documentation, where conceptual precision and terminological coherence are essential.
My approach: translating meaning, context and precision
During the first eighteen years of my professional career, I worked almost exclusively with two agencies, collaborating with them continuously on a full-time basis. This long-term stability was based on a steady volume of assignments and on the trust built over time, supported by reliable and consistent deliveries.
In recent years, I have expanded my client portfolio to also work with other agencies and companies in the technical and industrial sectors. This diversification has allowed me to take on projects in new areas of engineering and medical devices and to strengthen my specialisation. These collaborations are characterised by a high level of trust and by the assignment of particularly demanding projects.
Throughout my career, the quality and consistency of my work have led me to receive assignments that require a particularly high level of detail or that are intended for final delivery without the need for additional review. In addition, during my first months in the sector, I was also assigned review tasks, an early recognition of the technical and linguistic solidity of my work.
Outside the professional sphere, I devote much of my time to mountaineering and mountain sports such as via ferrata, alpinism and canyoning. I also organise long-distance treks for my mountain club, an activity that combines planning, analysis and attention to detail — qualities that I also bring to my work as a technical translator.
Areas of specialisation
I work in fields where a nuance or an incorrect term can change the meaning.
Science
Scientific and academic texts with high conceptual density, notation and specialised terminology.
Technology
Engineering, automation and technical documentation where operational clarity is key.
Medical devices
Healthcare and biomedical documentation with a direct impact on safety and correct use.
Mountaineering
Real field terminology for manuals, safety documentation, technical data sheets and specialised marketing.
